Brazil wins the XVIII South American Baseball Championship

(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- Brazil took revenge on Argentina in the most important moment, the 2-0 shutout victory earned them the XVIII South American Baseball Championship played in Lima, Peru.

Meanwhile in the first game of the day, Ecuador beat host nation Peru by a score of 7-5 to win the bronze medal and make the podium with the giants of South America.

Brazil took revenge from the loss suffered against Argentina in the round stage by shutting them out 2-0 in the final, not only did they win the gold medal and the championship but also earned their spot in the Pan-American games in Santiago 2023.

The champions rode on Andre Rienzo (Ex-MLB) great outing, he pitched a complete game shutout, only giving up two hits and three walks, striking out twelve.

Felipe Augusto went 2-3 with a run and Salomon Koda hit 1-3 with another run, also Marcio Issao had an RBI.

As Brasil earned the championship and Argentina the silver medal, Ecuador did their part by defeating host nation Peru 7-5 to win the bronze medal.

Orlando Leon picked up the win by pitching 5.1 relief innings, conceding only five hits and two unearned runs, with six strikeouts and no walks.

Offensively for Ecuador Alfonso Puig went 2-3 with a run and a walk, also Carlos Rodriguez scored one and drove in another. Gustavo Landin hit 1-2 with a run scored.

Peru finished fourth and Bolivia fifth.
