(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The South American U18 tournament culminated its Opening Round with victories for Venezuela and Brazil, the latter in the South American Classic against Argentina.
Venezuela unleashed all its artillery against Peru to deliver a knockout in five innings with a final score of 15 to 0.
Offensively for Venezuela, Alejandro Fuentes stood out, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs, with a home run. Mayckol Díaz also homered, batting 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs.
Venezuela reaches 3-0, while Peru remains winless (0-3), they will meet again in the semifinals of the tournament.
The other semifinal will be played by Brazil (2-1) and Argentina (1-2) after the Brazilians beat the Argentines 4 to 2 coming from behind.
Key on offense was Andre Setagawa who went 2 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI, while Dylan Dubovik went 2 for 3 with one scored and two RBIs to complete the comeback against the hosts of the tournament.
