Mike Alvarez became the 10th Cuban manager to celebrate in Venezuela, leading the Caribes de Anzoátegui to a sweep of the final series. Luis Sardiñas earned MVP honours.

The Caribes de Anzoátegui swept defending champions Cardenales de Lara in the final series to earn the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP, Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional) crown.

It's the fourth league title for Caribes, whose pitchers dominated the first two games, allowing only a combined 10 hits in a couple of shut-out wins, 6-0, 1-0.

The other two games saw the Caribes' bats combine for 29 hits. The Caribes won game three 9-6 and needed one extra inning to win the fourth and final game, 8-7.

Caribes' Captain Niuman Romero, a 36-year old veteran who had his Major League Baseball (MLB) experience in 2009 and 2010, batted in the winning run in the 10th with a deep double to right field, scoring pinch runner Christian Pedroza.

Shortstop Luis Sardiñas had a .412 batting average in the series and earned MVP honours.
