On Saturday night in Artemisa – a small provincial capital to the west of Havana – the Cuban baseball community sadly lost one of its top stars of the past decade. Jovial and talented Artemisa right-handed pitcher Yadier Pedroso was killed when the car in which he was riding with two friends collided with a cargo truck at approximately 10:30 pm.

Final Round of World Baseball Classic to commence on Sunday in San Francisco
San Francisco. The final round of the 2013 World Baseball Classic will commence on Sunday evening at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California. In the first semi-final two-time WBC winner Japan will meet with Puerto Rico, which had stunned and eliminated Team USA on Friday evening in Miami, clinching the last final round berth. On Saturday they lost the seeding game to the Dominican Republic and draw Japan in the semi-finals.
