MLB announces 2013 Spring Training Schedule

The first 2013 Spring Training exhibition game will be held on Thursday, February 21st in Fort Myers, Florida, where the Boston Red Sox will host Northeastern University, Major League Baseball announced today. Four games for charity, including one in the Grapefruit League and three in the Cactus League, will be played on Friday, February 22nd, and the first full slate of games involving all 30 Major League Clubs will take place on Saturday, February 23rd.

USA Baseball announced Sunday the naming of Wright State baseball coach Rob Cooper as manager of the 2013 18U National Team. Cooper will be making his managerial debut for Team USA after previously wearing the red, white and blue as part of the coaching staff of the 2007 and 2009 Collegiate National Teams.

No Players Elected to Hall of Fame for First Time Since 1996

A winning candidate did not emerge from the Hall of Fame balloting conducted by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America and verified by Ernst & Young. There were 569 ballots cast, the third highest total in the history of the voting, but none of the 37 candidates in the 2013 vote gained mention on the required 75 percent for election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
