OTTAWA-Twenty-five Bantam Girls players are getting a head start on the 2012 baseball season as they arrived in Cuba yesterday to compete in a friendly international series. The trip, for girls aged 14-20, will focus on developing baseball skills along with gaining a cultural experience both on and off the baseball field.
Dominican Team wins 2012 Caribbean Series
The hosts celebrated at the 2012 Caribbean Series in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Leones del Escogido won four of six games overall to finish first and to pick up the championship at the highest baseball tournament for club teams in Latin America. The winners of the Winter Leagues in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic participated this year.

Major League Baseball will, for the first time, launch a showcase that features top unsigned amateur prospects from Venezuela and the Dominican Republic competing against one another in front of scouts from all 30 Major League Clubs.
