(Press release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- The Women's World Cup qualifier in La Guaira, Venezuela continued with a vibrant day in which Mexico and Puerto Rico came out ahead of the rest.

In the first game of the day, the Dominican Republic and Cuba met in a classic game between baseball powerhouses, in which both countries were looking for their first victory of the event.

Cuba knew how to overcome an early deficit and with five runs in the final innings they turned the game around to win 6-4. Yanet Cruz came on as relief to silence the Dominicans and score the win.

For the second duel of the day, Nicaragua and Mexico offered a pitching duel between Brenda Jiménez and Rosa del Castillo, with an exciting outcome in extra innings favorable to the Mexicans 5 to 4.

Yamileth Alemán put Nicaragua ahead with an inside the park homerun in the fourth, Mexico responded with three runs, on singles by Marcela Díaz and Itza Hernández, an inning later and Nicaragua tied it at three with hits by Griselda Rojas and Angelica Ortez an inning later.

In extra innings, Nicaragua went up by one run, but Mexico managed to respond with two runs to finally take the victory 5 to 4 and thus maintain their unbeaten record.

In the duel of the night, Puerto Rico maintained its unbeaten record by beating hosts Venezuela 10-4 in a true match in which the offensives were present.

Venezuela took a 1-0 lead in the third, but Puerto Rico responded with two in the bottom of the inning. The Puerto Ricans went up 5-1, but Venezuela responded with three in the fifth to go up 5-4.

But after that, Puerto Rico exploited offensively with five runs to put the final figure 10 to 4.
