Cincinnati Reds outfielder Donald Lutz becomes first German-developed player to play in the Major Leagues
Monday night, outfielder Donald Lutz pinch-hit for the Cincinnati Reds to become the first German-developed player to play in Major League Baseball. Lutz was also a member of the German National Team that competed in the Qualifiers for the 2013 World Baseball Classic and is the second graduate of the Major League Baseball International European Academy to play in the Major Leagues.

Donald Lutz to become first German Major Leaguer
The 24-year-old first baseman/outfielder Donald Lutz is on the verge of making history. When he will get called up from Double-A Pensacola by the Cincinnati Reds for their series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, it would make him the first German player on a MLB team.

Major League Baseball has partnered with the Puerto Rico Scouts Association to host the Torneo de Excelencia Victor Pellot at the Sola Morales Stadium in Caguas, Puerto Rico from April 29th – May 4th. Seven teams composed of top amateur talent will compete in the 2013 Torneo de Excelencia.
