Congress WBSC Americas 2022 was successfully held in La Guaira, Venezuela

(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- The Board of Directors of WBSC Americas held its first Congress in Venezuela in 20 years, which was attended by different leaders of the Baseball Federations from all over the continent to decide on the steps to be taken in the next few years in American baseball.

Last Wednesday, November 30, was the arrival of the representatives of the different countries that traveled to Venezuela, and a welcome dinner was held at the Marriott Hotel Playa Grande.

The Governor of La Guaira State, Jose Alejandro Teran cordially received the representatives and spoke with them during dinner, officially welcoming them to the country, to La Guaira State and to Congress.

In the morning hours of Thursday, December 1, the meetings of the WBSC Americas Board of Directors were held, chaired by Aracelis León (Venezuela) together with the group of directors that make it up: the general secretary Jorge Cabrera (El Salvador), the treasurer Dr. José Quiles (Puerto Rico), and directors Ramón Crespo (Panama), Alex Camacho (Bolivia) and Guillermo Barillas (Guatemala), as well as Executive Director Oscar Eduardo Izaguirre (Venezuela).

The morning agenda continued with the meetings of the Board of Directors with the different confederations that confirm WBSC Americas: COCABE, CONCEDE and CONSUBE.

After deliberating for much of the morning and midday, the directors had a guided tour through the State, witnessed the game between Bravos of Margarita and Águilas of Zulia at the Jorge Luis García Carneiro stadium and later toured part of the the coastal strip as part of the activities planned by the state government.

Friday was the day of the General Assembly in which the Minister of Youth and Sports Mervin Maldonado, the Governor of the State of La Guaira José Alejandro Terán and the mayor of La Guaira, Colonel José Manuel Suarez were present and accompanied the beginning of the Assembly.

Also present were Dr. Ninoska Clocier, president of the National Institute of Sports in Venezuela, and the director of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee, Katiuska Santaella, supporting the start of the Congress.

Special guests were also present for its inauguration, the vice minister of sports Juan Amarantes and the VOC board of directors and distinguished person and leader in Venezuelan sports Elida Rodríguez.

After the inauguration protocol act with the support of these personalities, the act of establishment of the Assembly was carried out and the points discussed were approved unanimously.

Representatives of countries such as Jorge Otsuka (Brazil), Carlos Roque (Colombia), Evert López (Niacaragua), Arturo Brito (Dominican Republic), Jedrek Magdalena (Curacao) and Víctor Ramos (Peru) participated in the act that was also present via zoom of other executives of the Continent who could not travel to Venezuela.

The Congress was cataloged as all those present as a positive and successful experience that leaves good feelings for the immediate future of baseball throughout the American continent.
