México stays hot and Nicaragua bests Cuba in the U23 qualifier

(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- México is making the best of playing host in the U23 qualifier by winning it´s fourth game in a row, a KO victory over the defending champ Venezuela.

Meanwhile, Nicaragua stunned Cuba by beating them and handing them their first lost of the tournament, while Puerto Rico bounced back and beat Argentina.

México has won four straight games by KO, Nicaragua, Argentina, Guatemala fell first, but the 14-0 victory in six innings against defending champs, Venezuela, has them on a roll.

Javier Sánchez went 2-1 with a run scored and four knocked in with a homer, also Carlos Pacheco went 5-2 with one run and four RBI, he also homered in the contest.

México took advantage of Venezuela’s four errors and limited the defending champs to only three hits to win easily.

Nicaragua surprised Cuba with a 3-1 victory to better their record to 2-1 in the tournament. The defending qualifier champs will try to keep it rolling tomorrow versus Argentina.

José Hurtado went 3-2 with an RBI, while Cristhian Sandoval and José Orozco each had one hit and one run scored. Nicaragua´s relief pitching was flawless, Milton Quintana (winner), Álvaro Amador and Wilfredo Miranda (save) combined for 2.2 innings for no runs, two hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Finally, Puerto Rico bested Argentina by KO 12-1 and better their record to 2-1 in the U23 qualifier. They will face the defensding champs tomorrow and try to keep it going.
