México and Cuba start out dominant in the U23 World Cup qualifier

(Press release – WBSC Américas).- The u23 qualifier in Aguascalientes, México continued with the host nation taking the first two games staying hot, Cuba also won its first two games.

Cuba came from behind to beat Venezuela in a very close duel 3-1 and taking the first two games of the tournament, the defending champs will wait another day to seek their first victory.

Venezuela scored one run in the fourth, but Cuba answered with three in the fifth for the comeback victory. Marlon Vega pitched two shutout innings with threes strikeouts for the save.

Nicaragua earned its first victory of the tournament by beating Guatemala in a four inning KO 15-0 with fifteen hits, after falling in their first contest against Puerto Rico also by KO.

Guatemala did not get a hit in the four inning duel, while Freddvil Chevez went 3-2 with two runs scored and five runs batted in. Jose Hurtado went 2-2 with a run scored and three knocked in.

México also took care of Argentina via KO 18-3 in four innings by scoring thirteen runs in the first frame of the contest and ending it with another four runs in the fourth inning.

Héctor Mora went 4-2 with three scored and three knocked in, also Germán Revilla went 3-2 with three knocked in.

México and Cuba start out 2-0 in the qualifier while Nicaragua won and lost by KO in their first two scheduled games.

Cuba won its third of the tournament 6-2 against Puerto Rico in the third day of play, Javier Carabeo went 3-1 with two runs scored an another two runs driven in.

Venezuela won its first game of the tournament beating Argentina 12-6 after falling to Cuba in the opening match.
