Puerto Rico new Caribbean Cup champion

They beat Cuba 9 runs by 4

(Press Release).- El Equipo Nacional de Puerto Rico, se convirtió la pasada noche de este domingo 11 de diciembre, en Campeones de la 4ta edición de la Copa de Béisbol del Caribe, al derrotar a Cuba 9x4, en el partido por el Oro de dicho certamen.

The Puerto Rico National Team became Champions of the 4th edition of the Caribbean Baseball Cup last Sunday, December 11, by defeating Cuba 9-4, in the match for the Gold of said contest.

Puerto Rico, who makes its debut in these events organized by the Caribbean Baseball Confederation "COCABE", achieved its qualification for the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador last Saturday after obtaining its victory against the Bahamas and had finished the regular phase with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss.

The winning pitcher was Oscar Rivera (1-0) who in a relief role pitched 3 complete scoreless innings, receiving only 2 hits.

The best at bats were Reynaldo Navarro 3-2 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI, Rubén Castro 2-1 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI, Kevin Luciano 4-1 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored, Miguel Egea 5-2 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored, and Pedro Nazario 4-1 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored.

Lost was Pavel Hernandez (0-2), who allowed 3 earned runs in 3.1 innings.

The best for Cuba were Alexquemer Sánchez 4-2 with 3 RBIs and 1 run scored, Luis Mateo 3-1 with 1 run run and 1 RBI, Yasiel González 4-2 with 1 run run, Richel López 2-1 with 1 run run and Christian Rodríguez from 4-2.

The technical commission and the General Management of the event, selected in the All-Star Team of the 4th Caribbean Baseball Cup Puerto Rico Starting Pitcher, Jose Burgos, Cuban Reliever Yeudi Reyes, Puerto Plata Catcher Rubén Castro, Designated Hitter Yoelkis Guilbert, Curacao First Baseman Dudley Leonora, Bahamas Second Baseman Adari Grant, Curacao Shortstop Darren Seferina, Puerto Rico Third Baseman Reynaldo Navarro, and Puerto Rico outfielders Miguel Egea, and Curacao Reyselson Carolina and Reysheandall Michel.

The 4th Caribbean Baseball Cup was organized by the Caribbean Baseball Confederation "COCABE", with the support of the Bahamas Baseball Association and the endorsement of the Pan American Baseball Confederation COPABE / WBSC Americas Baseball.

The 5th Caribbean Baseball Cup will be held in Puerto Rico in 2023.
