Dominican Republic wins the gold, Colombia silver and Venezuela bronze

(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- Dominican Republic came to Colombia and left as champions, they lost only one game and ended up with the gold medal at the XIX edition of the Bolivarian Games.

Meanwhile Venezuela took revenge and beat Colombia 7-1 in the last game of the tournament, they both ended with record 3-3, but the host nation had the run differential advantage that won them the silver.

Peru only had one win in six games, but it was against Venezuela, a costly lost for a team who needed that win to take the silver.

Only a KO victory would have earned Venezuela the silver, from the start they had intentions on making it happen, but after three runs in the first three innings, Colombia scored and avoided more runs.

Venezuela ended up taking revenge from the 10-0 nocaut lost in their first meeting against Colombia, but it was that run differential that gave the host nation the silver medal.

Gabriel Acosta pitched 4.1 innings for the win for Venezuela, only four hits, one run a walk and three strikeouts. He combined with two other relievers to give Venezuela the victory.

José García hit a pair of homers, scored two and drove in four as he hit 2-4. Beicker Mendoza went 1-3 and Fernando Kelli hit 2-2 they each drove in a run in the victory.

Dominican Republic (5-1) takes home the championship, Colombia (3-3) and Venezuela (3-3) step on the podium.
