Venezuela wins gold and silver, Cuba captures the bronze in the ALBA Games

(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The Venezuela Vinotinto team won the gold medal and team Azul the silver, while Cuba was on the podium with bronze, in the fifth edition of the ALBA Games .

Cuba defeated Nicaragua 10-7 to make it to the podium, recovering from a loss to start the tournament, but ultimately they reached the top three. While Nicaragua finished with no victories.

For Cuba, Rodolfo Bone stood out offensively, going 1-for-5 with a run scored and three RBIs, Freddvil Chevez went 2-for-2 with a run scored and two walks, while Milton Oconor went 1-for-1 with two RBIs.

Venezuela Vinotinto walked of Venezuela Azul in eight innings with a score of 2 to 1, a duel that was marked by pitching.

Gregori Arrieche threw six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and two hits, Wilgenis Alvarado took and did not receive a run in one inning, with two hits and one strikeout. Miguel Padilla got the win  by throwing an inning, giving up one run, with two walks and two strikeouts.

In the eighth inning, team Azul took the lead with a bases-loaded walk received by José Rivas. But in the lower part of the inning, two wild pitches allowed Rainier Rivas to score the tie and Wilkerman García the victory.

Venezuela secured the gold and silver medal, while Cuba took the bronze. It was the Vinotinto team from Venezuela that ultimately won the ALBA V games champion trophy:
