Major League Baseball, in cooperation with all 30 MLB Clubs, will host private screenings of the film “42” for thousands of teenagers across the country and in Canada. Clubs will select students in grades 8-12 from their respective communities to fill local theaters for the screenings.

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis has been named the American League Player of the Week for his historic performance during the period ending April 7th. This marks Chris’ second career weekly honor, having split the final award of the 2012 season with Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander on October 1st. Hall of Famer Eddie Murray was the last Oriole to win consecutive Player of the Week honors, accomplishing the feat on September 13th and September 20th in 1981. The 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, Ontario (TO2015) will feature women’s and men’s baseball and softball competitions. Women’s baseball is going to make its first ever appearance on the program, while men’s softball returns for the first time in 12 years.

It should serve as some kind of a warning to those dozens of young players now leaving Cuba annually with aspirations for grabbing the next Céspedes-like or Chapman-like contracts. It should also be a wakeup call for all those diamond prospects in Havana and points beyond that are still fantasizing about the coveted possibilities of carving out a lasting baseball legacy by somehow making their way into the North American big leagues.
