An Olympic flavour at the IBAF Congress
The first 2 sessions of the 2013 IBAF Congress had a strong Olympic flavour, even if the launching of the World Baseball Softball Confederation is scheduled for the afternoon.
Tsunezaku Takeda, President of the Japanese Olympic Commitee, and Ryozo Kato, Commissioner of NPB, made both strong statements in favour of the reinstatement of baseball and softball in the Olympic Games. Takeda mentioned the importance the sports may have if the Games are played in Tokyo.

OTTAWA- Baseball Canada announced today the names of 30-players who will compete in the Junior National Team’s annual Spring Training Camp April 12-22 in Orlando, Florida.
MLB names Chris Davis, Clayton Kershaw Players of the Week
Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis has been named the American League Player of the Week for his historic performance during the period ending April 7th. This marks Chris’ second career weekly honor, having split the final award of the 2012 season with Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander on October 1st. Hall of Famer Eddie Murray was the last Oriole to win consecutive Player of the Week honors, accomplishing the feat on September 13th and September 20th in 1981. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.

The 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, Ontario (TO2015) will feature women’s and men’s baseball and softball competitions. Women’s baseball is going to make its first ever appearance on the program, while men’s softball returns for the first time in 12 years.

Two-hundred forty-one players on 2013 Opening Day 25-man rosters and inactive lists were born outside the 50 United States, Major League Baseball announced today. This year’s percentage of 28.2 marks the fourth highest of all-time.

Nicaragua wins Baseball Gold at X Central American Games
Nicaragua has won the Gold Medal at the X Central American Games in San Jose, Costa Rica. The team of manager Noel Areas defeated Panama 6-5 in the Gold Medal Game. Ofilio Castro drove in the decisive run with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.
